Medical School Application Process...

So...I've been out of school for a year. In this past year, my main goal was to apply to medical school...and of course, get in. Ehh...so here's the abridged story/timeline:

April 08: Graduated with Bachelors degree
June 08: Started Kaplan MCAT course (Course #2 I might add. I'm not ashamed...things happen!)
July 08 : Submited AMCAS to 9 schools w/o MCAT score.
Aug. 08: Took MCAT
Sept. 08: Received MCAT scores...dreadful...but still submitted secondary applications.
Oct. 08 - 'Til: Either on hold or received rejection letters. No interviews for U.S. schools thus far.

At this point, I'm feeling a little down and out, but I'm still keeping the hope that something might come through. In January 2009, a friend mentioned Caribbean medical schools to me. I hadn't thought of it, and I don't know why because I am of Caribbean decent! I guess I was so infatuated with attending a U.S. medical school, that I ruled out other possibilities for myself. I knew I didn't want to enter into the workforce right now (my degree can only get me so far). I also knew that I was not cut out for grad school (my internship was fun...but not that fun). I have my heart, my hopes, and my dreams set on becoming a physician!

I gave myself a mini timeline. If I had not received any interviews by March/April...I was moving on to my plan B! Low and behold, I had NOT receive any interviews by that time so (Plan B...) I submitted my application to St. George's University - SOM (Grenada) and American University of Antigua - COM (Antigua). I believe they each have their ups and downs, however I applied based on what would be the best for ME.

I heard back from both SGU and AUA. SGU stated that I was a very "strong candidate" with "strong qualities that are needed to become a good physician", but they wanted me to retake my MCAT. They believed that re-taking it could only "enhance [my] application" (What if I end up getting a 12? Would that still enhance it?!). When I had signed up for the MCAT once again, and showed official documentation stating that I had signed up, they would grant me an interview. My acceptance into the Fall 2009 class would still, however, be contingent on my MCAT score. Blahhhhh!

"ALL THESE ROAD BLOCKS!!!"...This is what I'm saying to myself, and it's all because of my MCAT. My MCAT is what's holding me back from ALL these schools!!! Again, not feeling any better, but still keeping my faith in myself, and the Lord...I receive a call from the Regional Director for AUA stating that he wanted to set up an interview for April 29, 2009 @ 10am!!!! HOORAY!!!! I needed to prepare...(See AUA Interview)
